Dear Kristen,

I heard your 5/29/2013 radio broadcast for the first time on 1410 AM KBNP here in Portland, Oregon while driving home today. You are loaded with enthusiasm and lots of good ideas. I have enjoyed the good fortune to actualize many of my plans including non-smoking (2/2/1991), wealth accumulation, and philanthropy in memory of my sister Laura who died at 46 from the physical complications of her 25-year unsuccessful struggle with alcohol addiction. We have created an interdependent model securing $1,600,000 in matching funds for 8 Portland, Oregon addiction-prevention or recovery programs with a total of $2,700,000 raised since Laura’s 6/13/1999 death.

I have discovered through my grieving process that a brilliant proactive (and perhaps frugal) approach would be necessary. I am part of 880 champions who celebrate over 12,100 clean and sober years @ Sobriety Anniversaries. Nicotine counts! Because you spoke about the powerful demographic of non-smokers, I hope you might offer our Sobriety Anniversary webpage as a resource to your radio audience and circle of influence. Over 500,000 Americans die needlessly from the health complications due to nicotine, hard drugs and / or alcohol addiction annually. Affirming one’s Sobriety Anniversary date doesn’t cost a dime. The seeds of Recovery are possible at any moment! We also welcome 214 teens who honor mind, body, and spirit without drugs or alcohol before 21 @ Laura’s Pledge and who have significantly reduced their possibility for any future addiction in adulthood. Laura’s story has been a powerful motivating force. 20,000 folks have visited our website Greeting page since May 2006, and we have enjoyed over 80,000 webpage visits. Thank you for the opportunity to share it with one who empowers so many!

Sincerely, Brad Mersereau

p.s. Our mission is to make the memory of Laura matter, and I am comfortable with radio, tv, or print interviews if you find our work to have merit.

Good morning, Brad – thank you so much for your wonderful note!

I’m delighted that you like the Show, it’s been such fun connecting with KBNP listeners. Portland sounds absolutely beautiful; my husband and I hope to get out to the West Coast again sometime soon.

Congratulations on quitting smoking (BRAVO!) as well as your outstanding philanthropic efforts on behalf of your sister. I’m terribly sorry for your loss. I would be delighted to mention your website on the air, thanks so much for thinking of me! We’ve already taped the Show for next week (June 5th), but I’ll be happy to mention it on the June 12th broadcast – it’s my fondest wish that it helps more people find your wonderful website.

Thank you very much for the opportunity to be of service. Please keep in touch and let me know how things are going.

Wishing you Peace & Prosperity – K

Thank you so much for your thoughtful reply, Kristen. Speaking of service, have you read The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari by Robin Sharma? I think it captures the essence of Steven Covey win / win principles in parable form.
